Applications Architect – Equities Trading

This is a unique opportunity for a talented applications architect with a proven background in Equities trading systems. The role entails many activities including working closely with the business to set the technical direction of the development platform. Further, it includes applications design, development, technical leadership and mentoring the developers. Based on the trading floor, you will be working on a mix multiple small and larger projects.

The client is seeking to invest heavily in new technology to support the continual growth and success of this leading equities trading business. As a result, the opportunity to truly bring value to the business via technology exists. Further, this is a large trading business and therefore you will have the chance to work on larger and more complex systems to improve the processing of large volumes of equity trades.

Your background may either be from the buy or sell side, however you must have direct experience in an equities trading business. You will need to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the business processes of equities trading from front, middle and back office operations.

Technically you are a highly skilled and experience applications developer with full system design and development experience, ideally in Microsoft however if your experience is with Java, J2EE or other OO development platform then that will be equally considered. The most important aspect here is the proven ability to design robust, scalable and extendable applications. This is a hands-on role and you will need to demonstrate the ability to code the more complex components of an application.

Thirdly, you will need project management skills as the role is aimed at an accomplished technologist capable of setting the architecture, leading d evelopment and managing a team handling multiple smaller projects. Experienced Project Managers will support you on larger projects.

Overall, this role offers the opportunity to grow your experience and capitalise on your skills. Excellent communication skills, teamwork, initiative and creativity are a given. You must have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar discipline and it is anticipated that you have reached a point in your career where you are ready to take on new responsibility and stamp your mark.
