In the FIX 4.2 specification, the Bid Request message (MsgType = k) is shown having two consecutive fields with a tag of 58, these being StrikeTime and Text. This is clearly a typo, but what should really be there ?

It is a typo. StirkeTime should have had a tag of 443 vs. being represented by tag 58 (Text). Unfortunately it was missed in the Field Reference as well. It will be tag 443 in the 4.2 Errata.

Thus what should be there is StrikeTime with tag 443 and Text with tag 58.

What will the data type be for StrikeTime (tag 443) - will it be UTCTimeOnly ?
