branch/sequence (again)

Imported from previous forum

Suppose we construct a branch+sequence which conforms to an exchange E requirements — AAAA-1234. I (think) I know this ID must be unique and remain unique for the lifetime of the object that uses it. This ID is only unique with respect to my MPID and cannot be used by any other trade, order, whatever that my trading system produces.

But what obligation do I have when creating another branch-sequence for another exchange not E? Presumably I am free to use AAAA-1234 again so long as I am careful to not confuse things. What happens if some 3rd party passes this alone?

I don’t see how any of this can be source of confusion as long as AAAA-1234 is accompanied with a MPID or exchange identifier. Put another way the simple declaration of ``AAAA-1234" is incomplete and ambiguous without some other identifying piece of information.
