Choosing a FIX Engine and OMS

Hey guys,

Given: I’m working at a small start-up hedge fund.
(Programmer / Architect)

Given: My IT philosophy favors buying vs. building.

Given: I also like to stick to widely adopted, proven solutions.
(aka: No one got fired for buying IBM)

Question 1: Is QuickFix considered a reliable, industry standard? (The same applies to QuickFix/J?) If not, can someone point me to a review/comparison of the various FIX engines?

Question 2: What are the leading 3rd party OMS’s? (Tracking positions, etc) Any particular one’s that are considered reliable, industry standards?
