Commodity futures and options

Imported from previous forum

We are investigating the possibility of using FIX 4.2 for our systems that trade commodity futures and options contracts.

Does anyone have views as to the suitability of FIX 4.2 for such contracts? Also, are there plans to improve futures & options support?

Steve,
The Futures and Options Working Group met last July to discuss this issue with representatives from the FIA IT division. It was decided at that time to perform a gap analysis of FIX 4.2 for futures. Tom McCabe of the CBOT has been working on such an analysis. It is our opiniion that the FIX 4.2 is a good fit for futures. The CME is using FIX. The CBOT has a version of FIXML embedded in their order routing interface. Check with NYMEX, I believe they have been working with FIX, as well.

We are just now collecting enhancements for Futures and Options to be included in the FIX 4.3 release. We are trying to collect changes to be submitted to the technical committee by the end of April of this year. If you would like to participate or require more information, please let me know.
