In term of FIX implementation project, several integrators or vendors easily use of "EAI" terminology.
Is anybody able to give me a functional or technical translation of these initials.

“EAI” stands for “Enterprise Application Integration”. It is a buzzword. I’ll let someone else provide a good definition.

As an employee of an EAI vendor (NEON) I will try to elaborate.
EAI assumes that an organization already has existing applications that do its business processing. Unfortunately, each application defines its own file/message formats for sending/receiving data. In order to connect multiple applications, a translation program needs to be written for each direction between every pair of applications. As the number of applications go up the number of progrtams to be written/maintained goes up geometricly. EAI software (such as the NEON Formatter) is written to handle parsing, reformatting and routing of messages. This allows one input message to be translated into multiple output messages with each output going to a different target application in a format that the traget application already can handle.
