# FIX 4.2 Tag 14 Cumulative Quantity for GTD/ GTC

Hi,

I have a query regarding Cumulative Quantity ( tag 14) for GTD / GTC order.  
For Day order Execution report from exchange , this value increases as and when a Trade is occurred .  
But in case of GTD/ GTC order , on a new day the exchange is resetting this tag 14 to 0. It is also sending OrderQty = Qty Remaining upto previous day as a download on every new start of the day .  
Is this allowable at FIX ? or should the exchange send  
Cumulative Qty equal to previous days closing Cumulative Qty ?

Hi Saurabh,

Strictly talking FIX, I don’t think this is acceptable but I think it is best you check with your clients if they are ready to accept this solution.

Also, which specific exchange is sending you 14=0 on every new day? I could try and find out if we also see this behavior from that exchange.

Even if it is sending that, I think a solution is possible depending on the way GTC functionality is used. We replay customized GTC messages into our engins everyday (these have tags 14) so even if the exchange sends 0, the engine would know how to correct it.

Sourav,

what you are seeing is not consistent with the FIX concept. The order is being modified by your counterparty, i.e. the total order quantity is being reduced in sync with the executed quantity until the latter reaches zero. I would assume that your counterparty does not keep track of executions across business days and needs to make all orders day orders effectively.

The total order quantity of an order should not change during its lifetime unless the sender chooses to do so. There might be special cases where a corporate action leads to an adjustment of prices or quantities but an adjustment of CumQty to zero does not fall in this category.

A restatement of all orders with adjusted quantities at the beginning of the day does not seem to be very efficient either but I am sure there is a good reason for it even if it goes against the FIX concept.
