Dear Fix experts,

I am a newbie in this business and I am just wondering if you could help me with some of my queries.

I am currently working as an IT and Systems Officer in academic sector, but I would like to move on and work in the financial sector in the City. I have over 8 years of IT experience mainly on the support and system administration side. However, most of the jobs require specific experience, one of them is FIX Protocol. I am just wondering if these firms run training sessions for FIX and other financial systems and also if it is possible to join firms as a trainee to gain some experience.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Jenish

Hi Jenish,

FPL organises a series of conferences and events each year. Many of these initiatives feature sessions focused on enabling delegates to gain a more detailed understanding of the FIX Protocol. For further information about the events that FPL plans to host in 2011 please visit [www.fixprotocol.org/events](http://www.fixprotocol.org/events)

Kind Regards
Daniella

Start to studie order insert message and fix execution report (reply to order insert).
Almost all feedback on a order is sent in execution reports, such as status, and fills.
Most people will use a fix engine, such as quickfix for implementing fix.

A normal order entry and fill session for trading only need to implement 5-6 fix messages to work.

Fix usses value tag format, tag 1= account, value = 8417, means account=8417. It is really easy and you should be able to learn the basic in a week or so.

However, the trick is all added stuff year by year, and the support for old temporary fields etc. People not really understanding, or loving to make there own special solution has created a need for scripting, or moving fields from one to another to adopt to different implementations.
