Hi,
we are looking for a FIX engine which can run on mainframe. Is any vendor can provide a solution?

There is a guy on the mailing list of the open source QuickFIX engine (www.quickfixengine.org), which intends to port it to an IBM Mainframe.
Which mainframe to you intend to use? If the mainframe provides a UNIX compatible environment, you could give QuickFIX a try. Your costs are then your time to download, compile and find problems. The mailing list is quite helpful here.
If you need more information, you could contact me offline.
Cheers, Jörg
Hi Machadi,
Are you planning to run fix on an IBM mainframe ? As you may know IBM mainframes support java - you could therefore start narrowing down your search by looking at all pure java fix engines and then approach the vendors of those to find out their experiences with supporting their engines in a mainframe environment if any.

I’d second that idea with caveats. A pure java fix engine should work on a mainframe which supports java, but there are other issues which you’d need to look at - if you want the engine to write to a relational database then you have to ensure your database runs on the mainframe.
Also, of the java based FIX engines I’ve used/evaluated there are often third party components - such as xerces and other open-source code. So you’d have to ensure that everything that underpins the FIX engine would work in mainframe land.
You should also post your original mail onto the Product Discussion board as vendors are not supposed to post "blatant solicitation" on this board.

IBM mainframes will run Linux as a native Operating System (OS) or as a guest OS under the various IBM OSs (MVS, VM, possible even TPF). There is also a UNIX subsystem under MVS that is POSIX compliant. Any FIX Engine that runs on UNIX or in JAVA should run fine. You could run an ebtire cluster of Linux systems on 1 mainframe.

we are italian IT developers, technical partners of Fineco Bank/Capitalia since 1996(The First European Trading Online), for the istitutional trading clients; during the last 3 years we are developing a new Fix Engine, using ILE RPG on IBM i-Series As400 (870/890) for our client Fineco; if interested, we could send you more technical details. We dont sell closed IT systems, we are IT partners (young&fast&cheap) in client source proprietary IT projects, specialized in finance (Volvo Leasing/Sia-Kedrios/Fineco, our main professional references).
Best regards.
