To whom it may concern,
I would be interested to know if other Brokers are having problems with BLOOOMBERG for the following:
IOI’s vis FIX to BLOOMBERG. - At the IOIB screen in BLOOMBERG all IOI’s on the screen must be susceptable to Editing or Cancellation.
This is not the case, it seems, for IOI that arrive at IOIB via FIX.
ALthough good DR and business continuity, get you around this proble, it does not delineate from the fact that BLOOMBERG’s support of the IOIB screen for IOI’s over FIX is not appropriate.

Hello Carl-
If you are sending IOI’s to Bloomberg via FIX, which we will then display on your client’s Bloomberg terminals as you instruct us, you have the ability to modify and cancel these messages via your FIX connection to Bloomberg. As long as you follow standard FIX protocol, you can accomplish the above.
IOIB is a screen on Bloomberg that is used by brokers who are manually entering their IOI’s and Trade Advertisements into our terminals. This screen allows the user entering them to modify and cancel the indications they send FROM the Bloomberg terminal.
IOIB is a Bloomberg function for use in conjunction with IOI’s & Advertisements sent from a Bloomberg terminal. If you need to modify or cancel an IOI you sent Bloomberg from your OMS, you should be able to do this from your OMS.
You mention ‘…good DR and business continuity get you around this problem…’ I believe it is neither good DR or business continutity, but standard FIX protocol that allow you to send ammendments to previous messages. This is not a limitation of the Bloomberg system (or any vendor system for that matter), but rather a limitation of an OMS that cannot properly process ammendments on previously sent FIX messages.

Thank you for your postings on this matter.
As I believe the matter is now closed with the "add-on" that you mentioned, I would jus tlike to thank you and Bloomberg for your assistance in aiding Brokers that had come across this irregular problem that evented from their OMS.

RESOLUTION:
I have arranged and confirmed with BLOOMBERG, that in the next 2 weeks a tested and working fix to the problem will be impolemented.
This will no longer be an issue by Mid - June.

Let me once again clarify - the ‘issue’ that you continue bringing up has nothing to do with Bloomberg and our processing of IOI messages. The issue rests in the order management system of the broker sending the IOI message. There is nothing for Bloomberg to ‘fix’ here because nothing is broken. You are sending an IOI message and cannot ammend it from your order management system. Both the FIX protocol and Bloomberg’s IOI system provide for the sending & processing of ammendments on previously sent messages. Your system cannot properly send the ammendment at this point, and that is not Bloomberg’s problem to address.
We provide a screen on the Bloomberg terminal that allows brokers using our front-end to ammend previously sent IOI’s. As I pointed out before, this is a screen on Bloomberg for brokers using the Bloomberg front-end. For you to rely on a Bloomberg screen to ammend IOI’s you sent from another front-end is not an efficient implementation of FIX in my opinion.
However, we are in the process of building something for brokers, so that in the instance of an outage between your FIX interface & Bloomberg, you will have the ability to cancel previously sent messages on a Bloomberg terminal so you are not exposed. This is value added functionality being built for disaster recovery purposes. It is not intended for use to cover shortcomings of a brokers OMS, which is exactly what you have been describing. It will be available on a request by request basis, and should be available this summer.
My appologies to the FIX community for the continued banter on this subject. I don’t feel this is the forum for such issues, but if they continue to be brought up here, then I feel the need to respond. If anyone has additional questions regarding this, please contact me off-line as I asked in the previous post.
