Does chairman’s request represent the fact that FIX protocols up to version 4.3 still do not any language and locale other than English in US, but FIX as the organization body is seeking for a new version of protocol which supports multiple language and locale?
Jack, I think the “chairman’s request” you referred to was quite dated. This particular discussion forum and that request originated in 1997. I’ve removed that text from the heading of this forum.
From reading your post, it is not clear to me if you are asking a question or attempting to state "the fact".
It is not accurate to state that the current and recent versions of FIX only support “English in US”. The FIX Protocol is used by firms in countries all over the world. While the FIX Protocol specification document is published in English (there are a few “English in the UK” spellings in there), the data which is transmitted is not completely restricted to English. In Tag=Value format, the field identifiers (tags) are numbers. Many of the values are enumerations (numbers or characters). Note that in FIX 4.2 we added support to represent key pieces of textual data in non-ASCII character sets (i.e. Japanese). Please refer to FIX 4.2’s Appendix J.
Our Japanese FIX Steering Committee has translated key concepts and spec components into Japanese and conduct their meetings in Japanese (their minutes are posted in Japanese first, then translated to English). The FIX website itself has key pages translated into Japanese character set (if your browser supports, it click on "Edit Profile" and choose "Japanese" as your FIX website language).
Our Asia/Pac FIX Steering Committee publishes a periodical called "FIXAsian" in which each article is produced in both English and Chinese.
The FIX Protocol organization is truly a global organization and would welcome further language translation volunteers.
