Most exchanges and alternative trading venues are transparent with their trading specifications, freely posting them online for anyone to see. There are many more brokers, vendors and niche venues which only provide their specs on demand as a way of protecting their intellectual property or “secret sauce”. The need to protect intellectual property is obvious, but the approach comes with the big disadvantage; that clients quickly lose track of the latest spec version and functionality.
FixSpec’s goal is to make things more efficient, but not to force people to do things they aren’t comfortable with. Today we launch a service to modernize the way FIX specifications are distributed while preserving the ability of authors to choose who gets to read the spec.
