Also bear in mind that access control permissions are applied at the specific document level. The documents within those folders have the correct Access control settinsg applied as per the old site, with some being "public" and others being "logged-in users". The permissions applied at the document level pertain even if the Document Library is "public", so that each user will only see the documents to which they are entitled, even when viewed in the "public" Document Library.
This means some of the Document Library "categories" may effectively be redundant, as their only function was to apply the Access Control permissions, but this could not be avoided as part of migration, however I dont think this applies to those used in the section referenced, since they also provide a descriptive function. There ore other occasions where there are for example two categories "<name> - Public" and "<name> Private", which are redundant, since the only function of the the category was to support differentiated access control that is now applied at the document level. The documents could therefore co-exist in the same folder and behave correctly, but resolving this for the histrorical document corpus would be a substantail manual undertaking with little real benefit.
We're not quite sure why that particular document library was marked 'open to followers' however this set of resources was migrated from the original site and the individual files in the libraries respect the access controls from that. On inspection we realised that the document lists in the document libraries were not showing to logged in users due to the fact that that permissions for the libraries with themselves were not correctly configured.
The use of document libraries as repositories for these files was created explicity to deal with the range of unordered categories in the old site.
We have now configured the remainder of document libraries on this page as follows using the 'edit' option:
Document Library following permissions: Open - Any User many Join
Default Membership Contribution Status: View Only
Who can see this Document Library?: Public
The "FIX 2.7" entry is marked "open to followers" while the others are closed to followers. And I don't understand why artifacts like these old specs are put into "group" objects? Was there a reason for this?
I also can't figure out, as an admin, easily how to change this.
