In how far are FIX and SWIFT working together?

Hi,

as far as I know, FIX and SWIFT announced co-operation. So, somebody can tell me something about this?
Furthermore, with STP, aren´t FIX and SWIFT competing or is the one more pre-trade related and the other post-trade related?
