Hi all,
What should be the value of LastMsgSeqNumProcessed (369) when the session replies to a session message (logon, logout, resend request, test request)?
For example, if the session receives a logon message (34=42), should my logon reply specify 369=42 or 369=41? In other words, do I consider that the received logon message has been processed when I reply to it even if I may send a resend request just after?

Firstly, let me say that this question definitely doesn’t belong in the FIX.4.0 Session forum as this tag doesn’t exist in the FIX.4.0 specification. It was introduced with FIX.4.2.
As to your question, in the case of your example, that would be 369=42.
The answer would be the same for a ResendRequest that immediately follows. My take on the issue is that the Logon message is “being processed” at a minimum or else you would not be sending a Logon response.

Thank you for your answer. About the synchronization process, is it to say that every resent messages populate the tag 369 with the sequence number of the resend request?

Yes, I believe that every message resent as a result of receiving a ResendRequest should have LastMsgSeqNumProcessed = MsgSeqNum from the ResendRequest message.

Just to clarify shouldn’t the resend responses contain the same LastMsgSeqNumProcessed (tag 369) which they were sent with originally?
This way the same semantics are followed for all sequence numbers in the header like 34 & 369.
If there was only a gap fill in response to the resend request then that could contain the correct 369 (34 of resend request).
