Hi,
We are really concerned about an issue raised this week whithin our project group: if a market data feed provider stops sendind the market data feed, the clients will be behind the real state of the market, they will have just a delayed display of the market. How could we handle this? We are planning to use a message to be unsolicitted sent to those one who subscribed the market data feed, just to let them know that the feed is interrupted.
Any comments would really help us.

Hi Mahesh,
thank you for the reply. Actually, we have already considered using this message but we agreed that we need a message for system purposes much more than just informing the market that the Market Data Feed is out. We need to find a way to inform the counterparty systems that they must alert the users.
Cheers

Hi Marcondes,
FIX does not specify anything that helps you here. One idea, if you still have the ability to send Market Data messages, is to add a “StaleData” boolean tag to the Market Data messages. When you detect that the feed provider stops sending, provide MD updates to your subscribers using StaleDate = True.

Hi Marcondes,
In a 4.4 implementation I’m working on, because they are a data aggregator, we’ve added “stale data” as a QuoteCondition and TradeCondition. If an entry is stale then they don’t send information such as price and quantity.
