We have just had messages rejected by a vendor in testing because TAG 128 was more than 250 characters.
I am not aware of any restrictions on length apart from the message length of 9999 in FIX 4.0.
Yet, I am being told that this is a FIX 4.0 limitation.
Is this an undocumented feature or have I missed something?
TAG 128 in this instance can be used to send more than one address. ABN AMRO sends IOIs to lots of organisations. In the absence of a known restriction, the full set of addresses was put on a single message.
Sending many messages or using list names can solve the problem.
However I think the sentiment, “We don’t, so why should you want to” is not a healthy one to adopt.
