Hi Kashyap,

Since FIX 4.2, ExecID is a string type. You can put what value you want (an integer or not).

Xavier.

Why do you want to put negative values in this field?
The protocol allows you put any “string” value (it can be negative or positive)
I don’t know any sell-side that returns negative value, but if your application is a type of sell-side you can put negative value…The only caution is hit with the buy-side!!!

If I said something stupid, please correct me.

Hi Soprani,

Thanks for your response.
However I observed that NASDAQ sends negative value in tag 17 for execution reports with 39=0,4,5. Have confirmed the same with the exchange as well and they say that NASDAQ sends positive tag 17 value only for execution fills(39=1,2) and not for acks. I am not sure if this was only for test environment or in production as well.
hence wanted to know if FIX allows this. Since 4.2 considers the data type of tag 17 as string, maybe negative value looks legible now.
