Hi FIX Folks,

I would like to have a meeting in NYC area which is low cost targetted towards people who cannot afford the cost of 5 star FIX conferences costing thousand dollars ( example http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/read/4a704877 ) I cannot afford to spend this kind of money (I am a poor FIX analyst and not a wall street billionare) and I think many developer / tester level people cannot spend thousand dollars for a day to talk about FIX.

Anybody here have idea how this kind of a FIX get together can be arranged?

Mahesh,

Find a venue that will let you have a sufficient space for free and allow guests to bring a sack lunch. A local college or university is a good bet. Find a professor of finance or engineering who would be willing to sponsor, if necessary. Start the program at 11:30 am and end it no later than 3:30 pm. Ask a local venture firm to treat for coffee/tea/water/soft drinks and cookies, in exchange for an opportunity to participate and make a pitch for business plans/investment opportunities.

While not a full conference, most of the regions hold free quarterly events for members of FPL.

The last meeting in New York City was held in March and had about 40-50 person attendees (50 on the phone) from across the securities industry (buy-side, sell-side and vendors). The format was a panel session on Risk and Electronic Trading followed by a cocktail hour for networking.

Effectively then its not free. Like many developer / tester level people, the consulting companies which employ us are not FPL member firms, neither are the clients for which we work. Even in cases where a company is a FPL member, the big bosses / top shots like CIO / Directors get to attend the conference - not developers / testers / analysts :frowning:
