After taking a look at some of the discussion that has been going on about partial cancels, I feel the need to propose adding an Order Modify transaction. A Cancel/Replace is to be used in those cases when the field that is being changed causes a new order ID to be assigned. A Modify is to be used when the changing field does not require a new order ID. All that is required for us to implement these two commands is to agree upon which fields fall into which category. As a starter here is a suggestion:
Cancel/Replace:
- Increasing Order Quantity
- Perhaps some of the Order Instructions and Order Handling
Modify:
- Decreasing Order Quantity (i.e. Partial Cancel)
- Changing booking information
Does this proposal help us achieve a comprimise on the partial cancel issue or does it bring up further complications? Since I am not involved in the details I thought I’d toss this one out there for discussion.
