The Global Technical Committee has reviewed and preliminarily approved the CME Energy UnitofMeasure Extension Proposal. This gap analysis proposes adding new unit of measure enumerations to support trading using metric volume measurements, which are useful for energy trading. Additionally, it proposes adding enumerations to support trading natural gas in therms and gigajoules.
The document now enters a public comment period in which public review and feedback is encouraged. Once the public comment period closes, the Global Technical Governance Board will meet to review public comments before final approval.

In the Gap Analysis document, there is an abbreviation to ‘therms’ as ‘thm’.
In wikipedia ( Therm - Wikipedia ) the sign of Therm is ‘th’. (whilst ‘thm’ may be the abbreviation for different terms).
One suggests to use the complete term ‘therms’ (with not abbreviations) in FIX.

That’s a good question. While I was aware of the Wikipedia article prior to submitting this Gap Analysis, I determined that the article was likely incorrect for several reasons:

The article itself mentions another energy/heat unit called a thermie with a symbol of th. It seems very problematic for the therm (a non-SI unit) and the thermie (an SI unit in the meter-tonne-second system) to have the same symbol.

Anyone can edit Wikipedia. Looking at the history of the article, I see that the symbol was “thm” since its creation in 2004, and an anonymous party recently changed it to “th” on February 1, 2012, with no real description of why, and citing no sources. I consider this change questionable.

A massive dictionary of units that seems well-researched lists the symbol for the therm as thm, and the thermie as th. (See http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictT.html)
For these reasons, I concluded that thm was the better symbol.
