I am a college student trying to prepare for career in securities technology. I am looking for documentation that can help me understand the ins and out of securities traing systems. I have studied books such as Securities Operations (Reddy) and After the Trade is Made (Weiss) and am now looking for something more low-level which will allow me to mentally “simulate” real-life securities trading. Can anyone suggest some books or sites besides the FIX site?

Take a look at Trading & Exchanges by Larry Harris, Equity Markets in Action by Schwartz and Francioni (this book includes a CD with trading simulations) and Professional Electronic Trading by David James Norman.

Are there any books more specific to fixed-income trading?
