Large city investment bank requires a very experienced ‘hands on’ C++ developer on Unix to join the Prime Brokerage team to:
• Join a team of analyst programmers to work on C++ server side components
• Analyse, develop and test the system
• Maintain and enhance the system architecture
Main duties/responsibilities
Analysis, Development, Testing
Would be expected to carry out all steps of the development lifecycle to deliver new versions of FIX trading applications, namely:
• Hands-on technical team lead.
• Analysing business requirements to find the most appropriate method for incorporating them into existing frameworks
• Documenting any new development or enhancements
• Unit / system / regression / performance testing those requirements
• Reviewing code produced by others
• Working with the business representatives during the UAT stage
• Supporting the implementation of each code release.
Technical Architecture
• Review technical designs to ensure they fit the existing architecture
• Look to devise and drive architecture forward to be used in various other applications.
Communication
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other development team members, other project members, other managers and users, gauging the level of technical knowledge of the audience in these communications.
• Must be able to participate in technical discussions within the development team, communicating any issues that have a project-wide scope to the necessary level.
• Must be able to participate in a culture of “knowledge sharing” within the development team.

Quality
• Should have a good appreciation of the software quality lifecycle, with emphasis on the importance of the testing stages.
• Must also be able to maintain the project standards and ensure that they are adhered to, as well as proactively trying to add to these standards whenever possible.
Overall should be confident, enthusiastic and proactive.
Team Structure
8 people work on FIX Connectivity in London, New York and Singapore. As well as 8 people working on FIX Development in London and Singapore. They are all experienced permanent and contract employees
Qualifications/Education Required
Educated to Degree level 1st class or 2:1
Experience Required
Experience of banking and particularly STP systems would be highly desirable
• C++: Must have extensive experience of writing multi threaded server programs – most work is UNIX based with some Linux platforms.
• Sybase: Must have experience of using SQL, and ability to write stored procedures, triggers and knowledge of optimisation techniques.
• The ability to balance the preservation and improvement of the application’s structure against a business driven, pragmatic approach.
Networking, and TCP/IP programming.
Experience of banking and particularly STP systems would be highly desirable
• As a senior developer the individual will be responsible for managing other more junior developers.
• Must have leadership skills and more importantly be a team player.
• Ability to interact appropriately with various levels of technical staff from senior management thru to junior support staff.
Confident and self motivated attitude towards work and initatives.
Experience Preferred
• Java: Experience of writing server applications using Java would be desirable.
• Experience of designing N-tier architecture applications, including knowledge of performance and maintenance issues, as well as an understanding of the distinction between tiers.
• Experience of a structured analysis & design methodology.
• Clearcase familiarity.
• CppUnit and unit testing methodologies.
• FIX Protocol experience
