Scope and Purpose:
To ensure that the continued development meets business expectations in terms of content, quality and timeliness. This includes the architecture, design and infrastructure required to support a growing business demand and the management of the team to meet these demands.
Main Responsibilities / Deliverables:
The key responsibilities and deliverables for this role are :
Responsible for the delivery of upgrades to an agreed quality standard and timescales according to agreed business priorities
Project plans (scheduling, allocation, execution of plans)
Work reviews (quality checking, standard setting, guidelines)
Line management of the team to ensure :
Work allocation that is fair and challenging for all team members
Objective setting, reviews and annual appraisals for all permanent team members
Personal development plans (including organizing training) for all permanent team members
Long term career planning for each permanent team member
Timely hiring of suitable professionals to augment the team, either in permanent, contract or consultancy market
Managing poor performance and taking suitable measures to address this
Maintain team morale to create a positive work environment
Responsible for guiding developers through architecture/design/delivery decisions
Produce regular status reports which include schedule updates and risks/issue logs to give business customers and Portfolio Manager full transparency on current project deliverables and future plans
Ensure developers have the right toolset to perform their jobs efficiently
Work with the PSG Production Manager to :
ensure the development environment is adequate
ensure test environments are ready at appropriate times in release cycles
delivery to production follows best practice
system, user and operational documentation is delivered with software releases
Ensure 24*6 support is adequate to meet business demands
Qualifications, knowledge and experience:
Required
Strong knowledge of development techniques, tools and methodologies
Strong technical skills, with good experience of object oriented development and FIX Protocol.
Understanding of system architecture, hardware and networks
Strong project management experience (project planning, resource planning, project governance) with proven experience of best practise in software development and support
Team Management experience (staff development, recruitment, succession planning, objectives setting and appraisals) with proven track record of project delivery
Comprehensive knowledge of interest rates, credit and FX derivative instruments (in particular swaps, options and structured products)
Report writing skills
Numerical Degree
Experience of applying standards and disciplines to development teams
