Senior Unix, XML developer available

Imported from previous forum

I am a software consultant looking to begin work with a new client. I spent some time reviewing the FIX dtd and think I’m a good fit for the right company. Below is a summary of my skills and background–

  • Extensive experience programming in Unix, Windows, Java, C++, XML, and SQL. First XML server went into production in the spring of 2000, providing real-time loan information. More recently I have written multi-threaded server/handler subsystems that are used to process multiple XML input documents for multiple applications.

  • Current programming workload is 80% Java, 20% C++, primarily on Unix-based services. Worked with multiple middleware components, including Corba, Roguewave, sockets, System V IPCs, ATL, ISAPI, and EJB. Wrote client-side applications using Html/JavaScript, MFC, and X-Windows. Wrote numerous script programs using sh, awk, and perl, and wrote multiple PL/SQL procedures.

  • Consistently produced a much larger volume of quality code than my peers over the past 10 years, while working on the most complicated problems.

  • Designed and managed the development of an image processing system which generated revenues of over $300 million. Systems process billions of dollars per day in financial transactions, including much of the bank to bank funds transfer in Sweden. Responsible for overall design, initial implementation, prototypes, and modifications required to support worldwide deployment. Managed a staff of sixteen and a budget of $1 million. Reported directly to senior management. Later managed multi-million dollar installations at Wells Fargo Bank and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Accurately forecasted worldwide sales.

  • Over 12 years of experience in the development and support of multi-platform financial applications. Began building client/server software applications while working for IBM in the late 1980s. Worked in a variety of software positions, from contract programmer to Director of Software Engineering.

If necessary, I’m willing to work for free for a short term (10-20 hours) to prove I can provide functional components that support the FIXXML standards and that meet your coding standards. I prefer to work off-site, due to family and tax concerns, but am flexible. If hired, my standard rate is $85 to $100/hr.
