Cash settlement means same-day. Next Day means just that, but today involves batch reporting and manual back office procedures that allow postponement of exception handling and sometimes the allocation step to the day after trade. T+1 on the other hand calls for being ready to settle all trades by midnight on trade date implying real-time electronic reporting, matching and allocation and immediate attention to exceptions.
