Regarding a fix message and the header … According to the fix 4.x specs "The general format of a FIX message is a standard header followed by the message body fields and terminated with a standard trailer".
From this, can we safely assume there should never be a user defined field in the standard header? So, for any valid fix message - it must conform EXACTLY to the specification of the standard header.
