Job Description:
The Financial Systems Management (FSM) FX Cash team supports a number of proprietary trading and risk-management applications across different platforms (Windows NT, Unix, and VMS). These applications are used by trading and sales staff to transact Foreign Exchange and manage positions in the FX market globally. The team is also responsible for application deployment, contingency planning for, maintenance of and enhancements to production applications. The team is represented in four main locations, London, Singapore, Stamford, and Zurich, mirroring the presence of FX trading desk.

The successful applicant should be technically inclined and demonstrate an interest in the FX business. He/she will work closely with the IT Development team and the FX business to ensure application stability and manage new releases. He/she must be able to prioritise tasks, evaluate progress, and manage projects independently. FSM is the first point of contact when the FX business requires a technological solution, the applicant should be able to deliver these rapidly whenever feasible, this requires familiarity with various scripting and programming language. When necessary, the analyst is expected to provide preliminary analysis for longer-term projects that will require significant expense and effort.

Senior team members are expected to represent the FX area in technical committees and during infrastructure planning. They are also expected to help evaluate new technology and manage projects.The role requires excellent communication skills, and the motivation necessary to work in a fast-paced trading environment. The ability to master new technology, and effectively adapt knowledge and skills is absolutely essential. The FX cash area uses a wide array of technologies and our systems are expected to evolve rapidly in response to changing market needs.

Responsibilities:
• Use technical expertise, creative analysis and knowledge of FX business processes to answer queries and solve problems.
• Minimize risks to the FX business by developing redundant, failure-tolerant systems architecture Manage the impact of production problems so as to ensure business continuity.
• Plan and manage the global deployment of new applications or infrastructure enhancements.
• Prepare and deliver training and presentations for colleagues, other IT teams, and the FX business.
• Many systems are mission critical (i.e. essential to IB’s participation in the global FX market); maintaining uptime is a priority.
• Control risks and costs within own area (e.g. by using time and resources effectively)
• Maintain knowledge of developments in technology of strategic importance
• Creative use of technology to enhance stability of production applications

Minimum Requirements:
• Ability to quickly master new technology
• 3+ years experience in an IT support or development role
• O/S: mid - high level expertise in UNIX/Solaris, Windows NT, VMS
• Programming Languages: 2+ Yr experience with Perl/C/C++/Java/VB or strong Unix scripting knowledge
• Good understanding of relational databases (Sybase/RDB/Oracle)
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
• Understanding of client-server applications in a heterogeneous networked environment
• Understanding of Networking Fundamentals
• Good command of MS Office applications, including Excel and MS Access
• Understanding of FX products and financial risk control desirable
• Familiarity with web technology is an asset Occasional weekend work and on-call support
