Summary:
They are responsible for identifying, resolving and escalating problems/application/system alerts that could impact the timely completion of the critical path. They must escalate to the manager any major problems or delays as well as environmental impacts to the infrastructure. The analyst must take ownership of a problem from its start to successfully completion. Candidate must be able to multi-task in a high production time critical environment.
The Distributed Systems Operations group is responsible for 1st and 2nd level support for all Windows, Linux and UNIX based servers. Analyst will be working within a 24x7 first and second level support team for the firms Distributed and Infrastructure systems (Windows, Unix, Linux, AIX, and Exchange). Analyst would be expected to handle problems via phone, email, and the Netcool monitoring system. Analyst must be able to multi-task, understand the bigger impact, and follow clearly defined procedures set by the teams clients. In the absence of set procedures the analyst must use his/her experience to resolve problems and escalate to management and clients accordingly.
Principal Responsibilities:
-Problem Identification /Escalation/resolution of alerts including autosys failures Sybase sqlserver and repservers, daemon and application process and file systems.
-Provide 1st and 2nd level support for the firms distributed systems (Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Exchange). Problems are resolved using clearly defined guidelines set forth by each of the divisional SA groups.
-Problem Identification/resolution of Cron failures, MQ series alerts, Ghost messaging problems.
-Contact a wide array of Vendors/Users/Applications and IBM mainframe support regarding missing bad feeds and files.
-Use Vi editor to diagnosis Unix shells for programmers/application support
-Manually ftp files to Unix/NT systems and Vendors.
-PROCMON failure restarts.
-Start processes for GSPORTAL and WEB services.
-Respond large numbers of email and phone requests on any given shift.
Experience/Skills:
Analyst must have experience with Solaris, Linux, NT Server and XP Desktop. Optional: AIX, OS/400. Analyst should have experience administering machines using remote techniques along experience with Exchange Server 2000 & 2003, Legato, Backup Express, QIP, and Netcool. Hardware trouble-shooting experience in needed for Intel based servers along with Sun servers. Emc (Clariion, Symetrix) knowledge is a plus.
-Have hands on technical and conceptual knowledge of Unix, Linux, and Windows based systems and applications.
-Hands on Sybase SQL and Conceptual knowledge.
-Netcool and Autosys technical skills.
-Communication and inter-personnel skills
-Strong customer service orientation
-Individual must be able to handle multiple interrupts and be able to multi-task effectively
-Individual must be able to deal with a highly demanding client base.
-Individual must be open to 24/7 coverage, during peak times.
