Where can I find all the Valid Values that can be used for Tag 65 (SymbolSfx) . Is the Value "B" in tag 65 valid with "VIA" in Tag 55 for the preferred security symbol "VIA.B"?

The usage of Symbol and SymbolSfx is often agreed bilaterally (by both ends of the FIX session). Typically an execution venue will publish their symbology requirements.
Some execution venues accept:
- "VIA.B" in Symbol and bothing in SymbolSfx.
- "VIAb" in Symbol and nothing in SymbolSfx.
- "VIA" in Symbol, "B" in SymbolSfx.
Your mileage may vary.
Check first is the correct procedure.
In the case of listed usage of SymbolSfx, here are some common potential values (of course, subject to bilateral agreement):
A = class A shares
B = class B shares
PR = preferred
PRA = preferred class A
PRB = preferred class B
PRWD = Preferred when distributed
WD = When distributed
WS = Warrants
WSA = Warrants class A
WSB = Warrants class B
ACL = class A called
PRACL = Preferred A called
PRAWI = Preferred A when issued
EC = emerging company marketplace
PP = Partial paid
CVCL = Convertible called
RT = rights
WI = When issued
RTWI = Rights when issued
PRWI = preferred when issued
AWI = class A when issued
WSWI = Warrant when issued
There are probably others.
The current CMS manual mentions:
"A list appears in the NYSE Stock Symbol Directory".
I hope this helps.
John,
I’m new to the forums and working on a research project for a client who is interested in the most common Tag 65 values used in equities trading.
Noting that the response is from 2003, not sure if I’ll reach you here in 2012. I’m sure things may have changed/developed and I’m looking primarily for the most current/common values used for Tag 65 in equities trading.
Perhaps the/an answer to my question may lie in your comment: “The usage of Symbol and SymbolSfx is often agreed bilaterally (by both ends of the FIX session). Typically an execution venue will publish their symbology requirements.”
Also, I noted frequent referents to Tag 65 values in FIX literature, “As defined in the NYSE Stock and bond Symbol Directory and in the AMEX Fitch Directory.”
Would you have any insight into quick access to related sections in the above mentioned directories?
Thanks for your (or anyone who might have thoughts on this) help.
