Tag55 - Ticker symbol

Can anybody tell me when trading in the US
markets, what kind of value should ticker symbol contains?

Taking the Nasdaq counter CISCO for example, from reuters, the Reuters Instrument Code (RIC) is CSCO.O and Symbol code is 17275R102

Should I be using CSCO.O or the symbol code for Tag55?

Most firms would use "CSCO" for a ticker Symbol for Cicso Systems.
