Hi guys,
is there a standard for identifying derivative instruments via Tags 48 and 22?
We currently use custom codes for IDSource and ID.
ISIN, SEDOL, CUSIP etc are equites specific, so is there an equivalent for Futures, Options and Spreads?
Many thanks
Graham
Hi Graham,
as far as I know, there is no “global” standard for listed derivatives, except for Bloomberg’s open symbology initiative.
At SunGard, we tend to use either one of:
- exchange native code (e.g. “GEZ4” for CME’s Eurodollar December 2014 future)
- exchange code of the underlying contract (e.g. “GE” for CME’s Eurodollar) + FIX tags 200, 201, 202, 167/461… to carry the dérivatives characteristics

Hi Paul-Lionel,
many thanks for that. Yes, that’s pretty much how we do it as well.
thanks
