The role resides within the I.T. department of the Investment Banking division. This small, focused team is responsible for developing and implementing a range of systems designed to support the requirements of the front office, research and corporate finance teams.
These solutions use a variety of principally Java client/server and web-based applications, connecting with relational databases.
Due to the desire to provide team continuity, a long term list of requirements and the success of the team to date, there is an opportunity for an experienced developer/team leader to join the team and help implement new and improved solutions.
The main duties of the job are to:
Maintain & extend the extensive Research web-based applications.
Create technical specifications and estimates for development tasks.
Contribute and participate in system design discussions and document application design and support information
Identify appropriate coding and design techniques for application situations.
Produce modular, efficient and maintainable code according to team standards.
Manage and deliver on-time development projects within the team, identify system issues and take appropriate action as soon as issues are identified
Push the application strategy forward, particularly with respect to updating of legacy applications and technologies.
Technical mentoring of other team members
Perform 2nd line support for all applications produced by the team.
Report progress to line management on a weekly basis.
Minimum 1 year Equity Research experience
At least 3 years Investment Banking experience preferably with exposure to Sales & Trading and Corporate Finance
Minimum 4 years experience of using Java, EJBs (Session & Entity), JMS (message driven beans), Application Servers, (Weblogic and/or Websphere, JBoss), Servlets, JSP, Web services (JAXRPC SOAP), JDBC, JNDI, Webservers (Sun One, IIS)
Excellent understanding of all other Java concepts and technologies
EJBs & experience of various containers & their management (especially SUN One Application Server and/or JBoss)
HTML & Javascript
UML & associated design tools
SQL / Stored Procedures
The candidate must be self motivated and pro-active. They must be able to manage their own work and manage a small team of developers to comply with timescales and scope agreed with the Project & Development Managers.
Excellent understanding of n-tier design and intranet technologies
