The FIX Global Technical Committee has reviewed and approved a refactored and standalone specification for the tagvalue encoding of FIX messages. The specification had previously been part of the FIX Application Layer Specification (aka Volume 1-7). The refactored specification has not made any material changes to the tagvalue encoding as defined in the following supported FIX application versions:
- FIX Version 4.2 with Errata from May 1, 2001
- FIX Version 4.4 Errata from June 18, 2003
- FIX Version 5.0 Service Pack 2 with Errata from August 18, 2011.
The standalone version therefore supersedes the section on tagvalue encoding in the FIX 4.2 specification and Volume 1 of FIX 4.4 and FIX 5.0 SP2 and the aforementioned FIX application versions as the normative reference for the FIX tagvalue encoding standard. The stand alone tagvalue encoding specification now joins the other FIX encoding technical standards: Simple Binary Encoding (SBE), Google Protocol Buffers (GPB), FIXML, JSON, ASN.1, and FAST.
