Happy to have it as an optional setting - but the default should be to preserve the existing functionality. This may be a new website but it is replacing functionality that has been there for many years and that people are used to.
This is a change in functionality from the old discussion group. I liked the notification. It allowed me to see what other subscribers would see in their notifications. I also liked that my email history contained a record of my posting. I would vote for leaving that functionality unchanged.
Site means a message within the site messaging interface itself, and Activity means the update is reflected in the site activity stream at Community/Activity, which is a personalised view of all subscribed events across the platform.
Mmmm - have not received an email notification for this post. What am I doing wrong?
Notifications should definitely default to on. People who are members of groups typically will expect to be notified.
I have just switched mine on - which was a laborious process seeing I am subscribed to many groups.
I have a couple of questions:
* I understand "Email" notification - but what do Site and Activity mean? The definitions of these should appear on the page, or be tool tips on the words themselves that pop up when I hover over the names.
* There are some strange groups I seem to be in: what are the "instance_guests_xxxx" groups?
* Why are the groups not in alphabetical order? It makes it harder to quickly locate a particular group.
Ken,
Thanks for updating my notification settings. I didn't know where to find them in the new system.
I'm doing this posting to test the new web site. I'm trying to post this a public item in the General Q&A discussion.
I'm interested to see what happens. I haven't receive the normal emails with new posting since the web site was upgraded over the weekend.
I received six notifications that Ken Yeadon had posted to this thread but none about John Cameron or Brian Driscoll.
Why is that?

Oh and when I posted the above I received an HTTP error too. Looks like the website is not working properly when posting to the discussion forums.
I received 5 notifications of Ken's last posting.
Well, yes and no Ken...
Why is the post button not disabled after the click event?
Why did I receive 6 of yours and none from Messrs Cameron and Driscoll?
> John I have sent you an invite to this invitation-only Discussion Category....
I don't seem to have received any invitation, and I can't access that category
