Korea Investment and Securities is strengthening its new overseas business division with a connection to Transaction Network Services’ Secure Trading Extranet, enabling the broker to offer direct market access to clients.

The link with Transaction Network Services Inc. (NYSE:TNS) will provide Korea Investment and Securities Co., Ltd. (KIS) with fast, secure and reliable FIX connectivity and access to TNS’ extensive financial community of interest. TNS’ network incorporates over 1,000 end-points, representing more than 550 buy and sell-side institutions, market data and software vendors, exchanges and alternative trading venues around the world.

Simon Mun, managing director of KIS’ overseas business division said: “TNS’ Secure Trading Extranet will play a key role in helping us attract business from beyond South Korea’s borders. Take up of direct market access continues to grow at a rapid rate and we are keen to assist clients by offering this service. TNS’ network makes direct market access quick and easy in a secure environment.

“In addition to facilitating this, we’ll also be able to extend our reach to other organisations linked to the Secure Trading Extranet and a pool of potential new business opportunities.”

Seoul-based KITC was established in 1974 as the first investment trust company in Korea, specialising in asset management. The organisation was reformed in 2005 when it merged with Dongwon Securities, a specialist in brokerage, investment banking and derivatives trading. This union made Korea Investment and Securities one of the largest securities firms in the country.

Alex Walker, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Financial Services Division, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming KIS onto our network and helping it connect with overseas markets. TNS’ Secure Trading Extranet is optimised to handle mission-critical connectivity, including support for direct market access, making it a valuable low latency technology for the rapidly growing financial community in Asia.”

TNS’ Secure Trading Extranet boasts over 100 points of presence and provides services to customers in 28 countries across America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region, with its reach extending to many more. Access to the TNS network is via a single, fully-managed connection and links with other organisations within the community of interest can be made within just three days.

Financial institutions using TNS’ network can exchange a variety of trade-related messages, including indications of interest, order routing and trade executions, as well as receiving consolidated and real time market data.
