Global investment bank is looking for a candidate to join the team in Tokyo as Vice President / Senior business analyst in the Financial Control IT group. The successful candidate would be an enthusiastic performance driven individual looking for a career opportunity in a region that is seen as the next revenue growth area for the Firm and which continues to see rapid business expansion.

The candidate would cover the Financial Controllers areas, working to ensure the continuation and constant improvement of operational support and contribution to strategic initiatives in partnership with their Asia regional Financial Control Group (FCG) clients.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Growing the current team of 2/3 business analysts and developers, to provide high levels of operational support across the Asia region.
  • Establish strong partnerships with the Asia FCG business unit to allow the group to grow from a primarily support group to becoming a strong partner in accomplishing current and future strategic business goals.
  • Liaison with global and regional senior user group sponsors, stakeholders and IT partners on a regular basis, to provide communication on status and issues.

Commercial / Business Orientation Skills:
The candidate will be expected to work with senior personnel from Controllers and Company Finance both within the Asia region and globally. Significant time will also be spent with IT, being involved in communicating and reviewing requirements as well as design and testing. A strong commercial sense is required to ensure that integration scope is managed carefully, providing the appropriate balance between strategic design and meeting the requirements of initial phases of work.

Functional Knowledge:

  • Investment Banking Product Controller experience with top to middle tier houses.
  • Product accounting knowledge of one of Fixed Income, Equity, derivatives or lending products.
  • Dividend and corporate action accounting and reporting.
  • Performing/managing daily P&L, month end reporting/reconciliation.
  • Compilation/creation of financial reports to meet external reporting requirements (e.g., Japanese MOF Accounting rules, US GAAP).
  • Some knowledge of regulatory regimes (Asia, US etc.) and rules.
  • Valuation and mark review.
  • Appreciation or hands-on experience of working with applications such as Microsoft Excel, Business Objects, ProClarity etc.
  • Appreciation of logical data modelling and large data wharehouses.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of work to pressured time tables.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to drive change.
  • Strong sense of guardianship and accounting control.
  • Organizational ability, project management skills.
  • Ideally, will have some basic understanding of how investment banking processing relates across multiple processes (e.g., trading to accounting to settlement).

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree

Experience:

  • 5+ years experience in brokerage/financial industry.
