My understanding is that for US equities this follows SIAC’s Symbol and Suffix notation used in CMS. For instance in CMS one might place an order for “IBM PRA” (preferred, class A) which in FIX would be Symbol=IBM, SymbolSfx=PRA. Note the chaining of the suffix for preferred (“PR”) and the class (“A”). One could specify just one or the other (i.e. “BRK B” and “AA PR”).

Other suffixes include WI (when issued), WD (when delivered), WS (warrants), RT (rights), CL (called), and CV (convertible).
