Mahesh, given that the emails at are generated at time of posting, can’t you get this info from your email header? (also avoids localization of timezone representation).

No need to localize timezone, just adding the date and time which is shown on this website’s forums is sufficient.
Today I had more than 10 email message posts retransmitted between email server and my mobile phone (I use it for reading latest FIX messages). The timestamp on the phone email reader showed current time. My memory told me these messages are old and they were more than a month old. For each post, I could confirm its old only after opening the post in web browser. If the email body had the posted date and time in it, I would have deleted it without reading the complete post and would not have had to open the same post in web browser to check its posted date and time. Its like the SendingTime 52 in a FIX Message which helps the recipient apply a staleness check.
Currently when a reply is posted to an old thread of discussion, the thread does not “bubble up” to the top of the discussion forum, it stays in its original position, so email is a way for me to view most recent activity in FIXProtocol discussion forums.

This sounds like a very special case where you retransmit email messages to a forwarded location with one month delay. Does this mean that you would ignore postings that your final device has not received within a certain time frame?
The normal case would be that the email is sent to you within minutes from being posted. I think that is sufficient. The email-header contains the SendingTime, it is the envelope for the posting. The date
of the original posting might be more interesting to see if someone responded to an older post. Still, my interest is triggered by the topic and not by the posting date.

I did not “retransmit” old messages, they “got” retransmitted - softwares are not perfect and Software bug - Wikipedia states “it is often considered impossible to write completely bug-free software of any real complexity”.
If my final device has not received a posting and if its not visible in the discussion forum, then the posting is not visible to me and I have no other way of knowing a message has been posted, so the post gets ignored though not by choice.
I use two methods of viewing latest activity on the FIXProtocol.org discussion forums :-
- Receive email subscriptions
2)Visit http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/ to see latest postings. If a forum indicates a new post has been made with “Last updated DD MMM CCYY HH:MM XM” with the date time part in Red color, I open that forum to see latest activity. The problem here is topics with new replies do not “bubble up” like they do in many discussion forums, for example Developer Certification (OCMJD) Forum at JavaRanch and other forums at the coderanch site. This was a feature request suggested in http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/read/ac424324 and http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/read/1eda1833

This sounds like a bug of the FPL website. I have not experienced delayed or retransmitted postings but you should alert this forum to such behavior. I don’t think it is intentional to retransmit old messages. Maybe others had similar experiences and can comment here.
The aspect of new postings to old topics is interesting as it could be valuable to scan recent postings on a forum one is not subscribed to. That is only possible by doing a “Show All” and looking for red font. It would be nice to have the ability to collapse or expand individual or all entries and see the entry time as well as the latest update time on the line of a collapsed item.
For now, subscribing to forums and following the direct link to a new comment for an old posting is the only way I am aware of but it is good enough for me.

Just a quick note that this has been added to the Jira issue tracking system.

Show All for General QA forum takes too much time to load on a regular computer and times out on mobile browser with error “This page is too large to be displayed”.
I think implementing “bubble up” for recent posts should help a lot.
