Session acceptor has responded to a Logout request from the session initiator, by sending a Logout message, and if the initiator does not drop the session, is it normal for the acceptor to keep the FIX session (not the physical session) alive (by sending heartbeat and test request messages)? If it is, is it also normal for sending a Logout message when the test request do not receive a response from the contraparty (when he has already logged out)?
Would appreciate some clarification!

If you receive a Logout the only messages I think you should send following the Logout would be the Logout response, a Resend Request, and messages in response to a ResendRequest (not new/queued messages or normal heartbeating). Entering the Logout state implies nearing a “terminal” (time-to-end) state. If you either initiate and send the Logout or reply to an initiator’s Logout with a Logout and do not receive a response from the other side within a reasonable period of time, I think you should terminate the physical connection and end (making the assumption that the counterparty is in trouble or has abended).
