Beginner guide but dunno where to post

Imported from previous forum

Hi everyone,

I am a C# programmer and recently been asked to have a look at FIX protocol. I am looking for a starter guide and possibly step-by-step tutorial. I been digging Fix for about a week and I still have no idea where it all begins. Appreciated if someone could point out to me the right place for me to start. Thanks all.

Hi Harry Lynn,

Welcome to FIXProtocol.org. Take a look at the FIX specifications along with a host of other presentations located at

Hi K. Mahesh,

Thanks for your reply. Appreciated. Could you please point out to some source where I can actually play around with the protocol itself ? I like to try things out as I am studying them. If it’s possible, I would like to setup an environment on my own computer and test it or something like that would be great. Thanks for your help and will be looking out for more stuff.

You can setup QuickFIX

http://www.quickfixengine.org/

it comes with sample applications

http://www.quickfixengine.org/quickfix/doc/html/csharp/application_1.html

By setting up a Session initiator (Buy side) and a Session acceptor (Sell side) you can “trade with yourself” and see FIXProtocol in action.
