I have difficulties understanding the point of the ChanBinding field in the SessionInfo structure as described in the Fix Application Note - Security Protocol.

As I understand it, the client inserts the port number of the server engine in this field and the server somehow uses this to validate the message. Still, I can’t see how this is useful unless the server engine is constantly switching between ports, which is terribly inconvenient.

Does anyone care to explain this a bit further?

By the way, does anyone use this field? (Might be sensitive information)
