Difference between OrdID and ClOrdID

Imported from previous forum

Hi,

I am new to FIX 4.2

In New Order Single there is only one Tag ClOrdID
In ExecReport, there are two tags OrdID and ClOrdID

I am confused why there are two different tags?
Why OrdID tag is mandatory in Execution Report.
As I understand, value of OrdID tag should be same as ClOrdID.

Thanks in advance.

In my view:

When buy side places an order (new order single), they have only their own Client Reference ID available. The Order ID comes to life only when the Order is accepted by the sell side. Hence Execution Report has 2 fields:
OrdID - Tag 37 - Sell side’s reference for that Order
ClOrdID - Tag 11 - Buy side’s original Client Order ID
