FAST Field Presence default

Hi All,

I have been trying to find info in the docs and forum regarding field presence default value but have not found an answer.
My question is, if a field can be specified as presence=“optional” or “mandatory”, what is the default value if the presence isn’t specified?

Please see the Field Instructions in the FAST specification where it says:

The optional presence attribute indicates whether the field is mandatory or optional. If the attribute is not specified, the field is mandatory.
