FIX 4.1J Specs Download

Hi All,

From where can I download FIX 4.1J specs? After doing some intial reading it seems that FIX4.2 includes almost all the extensions provided in 4.1J but not sure which are the ones that are covered and which are the one’s that are left. Can anyone please help me out on this.

Your e-mail sounds like you have the document that describes the FIX4.1J as extensions of FIX4.1. As far as I know, that is the only document that exists and there is no “complete” FIX4.1 specification per se. I spoke in the past with a couple of members of Japan FPL who was involved in the creation of FIX4.1J specification and they also told me that FIX4.2 absorbed most (if not all) of the changes proposed in FIX4.1J.

Gen is correct. “FIX4.1J” can be considered proposed extensions (for Japanese markets and language support) to FIX 4.1 and these requirements were incorporated into FIX 4.2 (released March 2000).

Thanks for your immidiate response. I don’t have much clues regarding the 4.1J specs / proposed.
The “section 4. FIX VERSIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS” of FAQ section “JAPANFIX Dec 2002” (which I downloaded from a link specified in the User group)where it says—
“The 4.1 version of the protocol was published prior to establishment of the Japan FIX Steering Committee. The Japan FIX steering Committee published 4.1J version of the protocol with additional specification for use in Japan”.
From this I guessed may be what it means is that its an extension of 4.1 and there might be a separate spec/schema/DTD existing.

In the same section mentioned above also mentions “The version 4.2 version of the protocol contains almost all of the extensions included in 4.1J” , since I don’t have any clues about what’s there in 4.1J so I m not sure what all is included and what all is left out.

Also, after reading the case study pusblished in the Cameron FIX website which says “Most of Japan痴 participants use FIX4.1 or 4.1J” I was wondering if one party already using FIX 4.1J then can it effectively talk to other party using 4.2 version or not.

I will be really grateful if you can please help me to know more about the 4.1J.

Oh I thought you were reading the 4.1J extension document. I do have a copy of the 4.1J extension document but it is in Japanese and I believe unfortunately there is no English version. In any case, I will send you the Japanese version of the document to your e-mail directly.

4.1J is based on FIX4.1, and for example, tag 8(BeginString) = FIX.4.1
Therefore, I do not think you can talk to counterparty talking FIX4.2 with FIX4.1J protocol.
