FIX 4.4 and 5.0

Imported from previous forum

Which version of FIX 4.4 or 5.0 is better?

is FIX 4.4 or 5.0 widely used by financial institutions?

or most company still using FIX 4.2?

is it worth to upgrade to 4.4? or any idea this will happen next few years?

Thank You

4.2 and 4.4

No sence to upgrade to 5.0 now.

Serg,

what is your view on when would be a good time to upgrade to 5.0? It sounds to me a little bit like the chicken and egg problem if you want to wait until everybody else has upgraded. Shouldn’t the required functionality be the driver for a specific version? 5.0 and 5.0 SP1 have added a lot of functionality that cannot be covered by prior versions. As of 5.0 you can also use Application Independence and send 4.2, 4.4 and 5.0 messages over a single session. The upgrade effort is much less than trying to map 4.2 messages to 5.0 but it gives you access to additional functionality, e.g. in the area of performance enhancements (reduced number of messages) and reference data (market segmentation and trading rules). This is something required in exchange environments. I do not know if you need to access such marketplaces.

Hanno.

Dear Hanno!

Actually, I am talking from point of view of third-party developers which working with brokers. We was build a lot of connectors but I still dont know sell sides which provide 5.0.
If you on opposite side of barricades - please, add support of 5.0. You absolutely right about engines - many of them allow handle several versions of protocol in one instance
For the last few years I noticed movement from 4.2 to 4.4 as more extended and function rich version. Same we can expect from 5.0. But this more on proposal side rather than demand:).
