FIX vs FIXML

Imported from previous forum

Hi there,

Are there any negative points to using FIXML when compared to FIX ?

Best Regards,
Jayashree

Jayashree, your question is it all depends upon what you are using it for.

Want to communicate with counterparties? Likely FIXML will not be available from other counterparties. The choice of FIXML would likely be seen as a negative in this context.

Want to automate your internal systems based upon FIX semantics and business rules (informal as they may be)? - FIXML is probably better especially in SOA environments.

Listed derivatives clearing? FIXML is going to be the preferable choice based upon adoption and compatibility with counterparties.

So it really depends upon your purpose.

hi Jim
Right now we are using FIX protocol for Forex Trading along with quickfixJ. We have 20 external customer and 10 internal customers. Can you please highlight more on FIXML and ASCII version of FIX.
