Formation of FIX Foreign Exchange Working Group

Imported from previous forum

A new group is being formed to focus on and expand the use of the FIX Protocol to support Foreign Exchange (F/X) trading.

This group is being formed in response to interest and questions expressed by various firms who are either implementing or considering implementing the FIX Protocol to support F/X trading. While the FIX Protocol specification has had support for F/X trading since version 4.2 (year 2000), its implementation had been fairly limited. Documentation on the use of the FIX Protocol for F/X trading needs to be expanded and improved. In addition, several facets and requirements unique to currency trading have been identified which need to be reviewed.

The group’s first meeting is scheduled as a conference call on Friday December 19, 2003 at 8:30am ET (13:30 GMT) and will be led by Scott Atwell (Co-chair FIX Global Technical Committee and a user of FIX for F/X since Jan 2000).

The goals of this kick-off meeting are to:

  1. Form the group with interested participants
  2. Understand each participant’s level of interest, use, or planned use of FIX for F/X and any areas of concern
  3. Review the current F/X support within the FIX Protocol specification
  4. Review a list of pre-identified "areas of opportunity" related to FIX for F/X
  5. Schedule a follow-up meeting to finalize scope, establish an action plan, and identify leadership of this group

Participation in this group is currently open to both FPL members and non-members as the group’s focus is on an area which is not a part of FPL’s current organization.

If you are interested in participating in this effort, please contact the FPL Program Office at fpl@fixprotocol.org. For more information about the initiative, you may contact the group’s interim leader at scott_atwell@americancentury.com.
