Hi everyone,

We are just starting a quick study of solution requirements. One point is the need for training, monitoring and playback/logging. The client already has a large desktop install base of IRESS, but wants to monitor and log all sessions. Does anyone know if this is possible with this product?

Hi Mark,

I don’t know anything about IRESS, but there are any number of third-party tools on the market that can help you with this. I know Greenline has a good monitoring / analytics platform - I think one of their latest press releases mentioned using a network tap for data collection which is nice because doing that gives you real-time monitoring without introducting any significant overhead into your architecture.

There are any number of monitoring and systems management products out there, I’m sure a few vendors will respond to you directly, but you may want to just contact a few of them directly and see what they have to offer.

Hi Mark,

I am aware that the IRESS product family contains the FIX Admin
module. This “allows clients to monitor” messages to/from client connections. I have seen this in use. However, I’m not sure if it will support playback. I guess your client needs this for training? Please contact IRESS direct.

Another idea I have used and seen is the ability to monitor all traffic port in/out of the network switch on a mirror port. This mirror may be used to sniff the network traffic, using, for example, WireShark or just a simple pcap process in the background redirected to a log file(s).
