Length of OrderID - tag 37 - Urgent

Hi All,

Can any one please let me know what is the maximum length for tag 37(OrderId). Fix 4.1 document does not say any max or min length for this tag.
I am facing a major problem with the length of this field.

There is no maximum length specified by FIX. Just ask your counterparty for their limitations.

Hi Alok,

As Jorg explained, there is no limitation specified by FIX. But we need to take care of the outside world limitation.

For example, NASD OATS reporting is scheduled to put restriction of 20 character max to its Order ID field when they roll out the next Phase to production. Effectively this means we shall adhere to 20 character restriction when we trade with NASD Stocks.
